The foundation ceremony, to celebrate the commencement of the construction of a new logistics facility for PVC Paste products, with many invited guests attending, was held on the 21 June 2001 in the Marl Chemical Park. The construction of this logistics facility will expand and intensify the longstanding and excellent co-operation between Vestolit GmbH & Co. KG (www.vestolit.com) and the SCHMIDT Group.
The PVC Paste will be conveyed directly by a pipeline from the production line into 28 storage silos. This new facility will handle, in future, ca. 140,000 tons per year. Logistical services provided include silo storage, bagging to sacks or BigBags, palletising, conventional warehousing, filling of either road-tankers or bulk containers as well as the conventional loading of packed goods into tilt or curtain sided trailers.
Until the scheduled inauguration of the new logistics centre in the Spring of 2002, about 10,000 m³ of earth will need to be moved and ca. 1,000 tons of steel and 1,200 m³ of concrete will be needed to complete the construction. This facility will be the eighth SCHMIDT logistics centre that has been constructed directly on a plant production site in co-operation with a plastics producing company.
The establishment of a logistics centre directly ‘on site’ and the use of the most up-to- date technical equipment has lead to a close co-operation between the Manufacturer and the Service Provider which profits both parties. Amongst other benefits, a number of truck movements between the production site and external storage facilities can be eliminated.
