Ceremonious MKL inauguration in Schkopau
After a construction period of one year, the new Mitteldeutsche Kunstofflogistik (MKL) logistics centre
located within the “Valuepark” near Schkopau (state of Sachsen-Anhalt, Germany), was inaugurated in presence of several invited guests on June 15, 2004.
In his address, Secretary of state at the ministry of economy, Mr. Rudolf Bohn,
appreciated the achievements of DOW, producer of chemical products and customer for this new logistics centre. He specially emphasized that 35 new jobs were created by the inauguration of MKL.
MKL is a joint-venture of Karl
SCHMIDT Spedition and Finsterwalder Transport und Logistik. Both companies invested a total amount of over EUR 17 million. The silo complex comprising 70 units with a total capacity of 17,500 tons and the warehouse surface of 10,380 m² are
setting new standards in chemical logistics service and can be categorised into the most modern logistics centres of the chemical industry.
Short and cost-saving transport processes are possible due to the direct link to the DOW
production plant. Mr. Manfred Aumann, managing director of DOW Olefinverbund GmbH, emphasized that truck transports to external warehouses in Halle or Grosslehna can now be minimized and road traffic will be reduced at the same time.
Moreover, Aumann expects a growth in the DOW production volume at this central German production site.
MKL is now one of 13 companies located in the Valuepark.
