In 1998, the SCHMIDT Group was able to complete construction of their largest outsourcing project ever, on the Basell production site, formerly known as “Elenac”.
Thanks to a high level of expertise in the field of storage, handling and packaging of bulk products and some innovative supply chain concepts, the SCHMIDT Group was awarded the contract for the planning, construction and operation of a bulk logistics complex. This facility provides extensive and exclusive handling and distribution services to the production company whose output totals 500,000 tons per year of Polypropylene products.
Silo batteries with a total of 91 units and 48,000 m³ capacity were constructed for bulk storage purposes in two separated areas. Four automatic bagging and palletising machines, which can process up to 6,200 sacks per hour, have been installed on the intermediate floors of the silo batteries. To ensure that the tank vehicle can be loaded up to it’s maximum vehicle weight limit, the driver must operate a special weighing machine which is installed directly below the silo unit.
Additionally, conventional warehouses, with a capacity of 17,000 m², can offer storage options for palletised goods.
The operation of a container terminal with ca. 300 storage slots completes the extensive logistics services provided by the SCHMIDT Group.
About 70 SCHMIDT Group employees are responsible for the operation of all facilities.
